Terms of Use

The short version: be decent, only post what you have the right to share, and don't use the site to harm anyone. You own what you post; you let us display it. We can remove content or accounts that break the rules.
About these terms
These terms apply to www.bamboobasic.org, including the community forum, gallery and web games (together, "the site"). The site is run by Michael Denathorn ("we", "us"). By using the site or creating an account, you agree to these terms, our forum rules.
Who can use the site
You must be at least 18 years old to create an account. You'll be asked for your date of birth when you sign up, and accounts can't be created for anyone under 18. If we find that an account belongs to someone under 18, we will close it.
Your account
- Give a valid email address and keep your login details secret
- One account per person. Don't impersonate anyone else
- You're responsible for what happens under your account
- Tell us straight away if you think someone else has accessed it
We will never ask for your password, by email, private message or inside a game.
What you can't do
You must not use the site to post, share, link to or embed anything that:
- is illegal, or encourages or helps anyone break the law
- is pornographic or sexually explicit, or promotes self-harm, suicide or eating disorders
- harasses, bullies, threatens or discriminates against anyone
- infringes someone else's copyright or other rights, including pirated software, cracks, keygens or assets you don't have permission to share
- contains malware, or tries to collect passwords or personal details
- is spam or unrelated advertising
You also must not attempt to hack, overload or interfere with the site, or scrape it in a way that harms it.
Content you post
You keep ownership
You keep all rights in what you post. By posting it, you give us a free, worldwide, non-exclusive licence to host, display, copy and distribute it on the site, and to keep it there as part of the community's discussions. This licence continues if you close your account, unless you ask us to erase your data under our Privacy Policy.
Code you share
Unless you say otherwise in your post, code you share in the Code Archive is made available under the MIT licence, so other members can use it in their own projects with credit. Remember, this is the default, so please specify a license type if required.
Make sure you have the right
Only post content you created, or that you have permission to share, and credit others whose work you use.
Embedded games
Members can embed games and pages hosted on their own websites. To do so, the website must be listed in your forum profile, and games will only display from that website. If you embed a game, you are responsible for it and for what it does. It must follow these terms, must not contain malware or tracking beyond what's needed to run, and must never ask players for passwords or personal details. Embedded content comes from other websites and is not controlled or checked by us in advance.
Reporting and moderation
- Use the Flag option on any post to report content that breaks these terms or the forum rules, or email forum@bamboobasic.org
- We may edit, move, hide or remove content, and warn, suspend or ban accounts, if we reasonably believe they break these terms, the forum rules or the law, or put others at risk
- Where appropriate, we will tell you what action was taken and why
Complaints and appeals
If you disagree with a moderation decision, or want to complain about content or how we handled a report, email forum@bamboobasic.org with the details. We'll review it and reply as soon as we reasonably can, normally within 14 days.
Closing your account
You can stop using the site at any time, and request deletion of your data under our Privacy Policy. We may suspend or close accounts that break these terms. We may also change, suspend or close the site, or parts of it, at any time.
BambooBasic software
Your use of the BambooBasic language, compiler, runtime and tools is covered by the licence that comes with them, not by these terms. Please check the licences in the BambooBasic packages.
Links and third-party websites
The site contains links and embedded content from other websites. We don't control them and aren't responsible for their content, availability or privacy practices.
Disclaimer
The site and its content, including code, advice and games posted by members, are provided "as is". We do our best to keep things running and accurate, but we can't promise the site will always be available or error-free, or that member content is correct or safe to use. Check code before relying on it, and back up your own work.
Our liability
The site is provided free of charge for personal, non-commercial community use. As far as the law allows, we are not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of the site or from content posted by others, including loss of data or profits. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot legally be limited, such as for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. We'll change the date at the top, and for significant changes we'll post a notice on the forum and may ask you to accept them again. If you keep using the site after changes take effect, you accept the updated terms.
Law
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and disputes will be handled by the courts of England and Wales. If you live elsewhere in the UK or in the EU, you keep any protections your local law gives you.
